CARBINE. Cal. 54. S# 38674. Bbl. 20", round. Blade front sight with folding leaf rear sight. Lever-operated single-shot action with saddle ring and bar on left side. Band-fastened walnut forearm. Straight grip stock with steel carbine buttplate. Left side of the wrist has carved initials that appear to be "SBK." UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: includes a Civil War weapons search by Antique American Firearms, Barrington, Illinois. The search results showed that this Burnside carbine, SN 38674, is a "Range Match" with the 4th Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry / OCT 1864. A "Range Match" indicates that the weapon's serial number is within the serial number range of identical weapons issued to the civil war regiment listed. Therefore, a high probability exists that this weapon was issued to a soldier in the listed regiment. CONDITION: metal has a cleaned gray appearance, showing spots of light pitting. Wood has worn finish with a weathered appearance showing scratches, dents, and marks. Left side of the stock has an indistinct cartouch. Bore has lightly worn rifling showing scattered pitting. (01-25578/DS). ANTIQUE. $900-1,300.
